Baron Air Charter

BAC G-ASOH

Operated from May 1970 to Dec 1986

Founder/Director – Mr Harold Bamberg

Baron Air Charter could effectively trace its roots back to Eagle Flying Services based at Leavesden, this company initially being one of Mr Bamberg’s primary concerns. It would then later became an associate of the General Engineering Company in Ilford, Essex and at the time, BAC primarily concerned itself with the transport of GEC’s executives between Southend and its other plants in Bristol and Derby. However in March 1970, the decision was taken to further utilise their sole aircraft by offering executive charters and taxi services to the commercial sector. Operating just a single aircraft for much of its existence, the company began revenue services in May 1970 and despite the economic climate at the time, it found itself to be mostly unaffected by the financial ups and downs that had affected much of the rest of the aviation industry. In fact, Baron would survive all the way through to the end of 1986 when this venture was finally abandoned and the aircraft was sold.
