Given Name – ‘Rupert Keegan’ and ‘Jean Batten’

Having been purchased during March, this Herald would be the second of her type to arrive at Southend, doing so on May 13th 1975. She would alsoHerald G-BCZGa be one of the few aircraft to be painted in BAF’s light blue and white colour scheme and by June 2nd, she was in service being seen in Manston on this date. Needless to say, the two Heralds now in service would slowly start to replace BAF’s remaining Carvairs on a number of its scheduled services which included a good number of visits to Ostend, Rotterdam and Basle, although charters would occasionally be carried out too. By 1977, Zulu Golf became the ‘test bed’ for a rather curious, mixed livery which comprised of the early blue and white and the ‘bee’ livery that BAF would later adopt. Invariably, such a messy look would not last long and by the end of 1977, the full ‘bee’ colour scheme had been applied.

Unlike most of BAF’s other Heralds, Zulu Golf would remain with her owner for the first four years of her G-BCZG BIAcareer and it wouldn’t be until the very beginning of 1979 that this Herald would finally go off on her first lease. With ‘Mike’ Keegan having decided to abandon the scheduled routes for ad-hoc charter work, BAF’s regular services were transferred over to British Island Airways, along with a number of Heralds that the airline would require to service these routes. As such, Zulu Golf was seen for the most on the Dusseldorf route, although big changes were occurring at BIA and with an imminent take over of the airline by Air UK brewing in the background, by the end of the year, most of the leased Heralds had been returned to Southend, where they were put back into service for BAF.

However, in early 1980, Air UK reacquired some of the Heralds that B.I.A. had leased the previous year. ThusG-BCZG Air UK in March 1980, Zulu Golf would depart to Norwich and service amongst others, the former BAF destinations of Basle, Dusseldorf, Jersey and Rotterdam, although a good number of these flights would generally be made from Gatwick and Manchester, while some of the Jersey flights would depart from SEN. By early 1982, Zulu Golf was back at Southend where she was temporarily withdrawn for checks and maintenance before again, heading off on lease, this time overseas. In April 1982, she left for the Middle East where she would spend 8 weeks with Oman Aviation Services, returning to SEN at the end of June. The company logo of this lessor was then subsequently removed and she temporarily returned to service for BAF albeit in a plain, black and white livery.

Her last lease for BAF would come on November 11th when Zulu Golf flew off for some winter sun in North Africa operating for charter airline G-BCZGTunisavia in Tunisia, where she would later be joined by stable mate G-BEYJ in January 1983. During this period, these aircraft were flown mostly between the capital Tunis and Luqa in Malta. On April 3rd 1983, the lease for this Herald finally expired and Zulu Golf returned to Southend, although by this time she had been sold off to M.M.M. Aero Service in Zaire and after pre-delivery checks and servicing, she departed just over a week later on the 11th for the tropical climes of Central Africa. Sadly, she would not last long in her new environment and in September the following year she burnt out after landing and crashing into village as the result of an engine failure.
