Air UK Leisure

Operated from Jan 1980 to Jan 1998

Main Base – Stansted

Founders/Directors – Air UK, B&C Holdings and Viking International

Air UK Leisure was a charter subsidiary of Air UK which was started up in 1988 using two leased Boeing 737-200 aircraft. Operations from Southend to the Iberian Peninsular began in the same year with most of these trips taking place during the week either on a Tuesday or Thursday, with the odd weekend service taking place too. During 1988, Air UK would send their 737s to Southend although as the year went on, these were at times replaced by BAe 146 aircraft. The following two years would see a repeat of such operations and while the odd 737 would still turn up, these flights would be primarily operated by the 146s which would again turn up twice a week during the high summer months. It is highly likely that these trips had something to do with Burstin Holidays as they ceased at about the same time that this Southend travel company was wound up.
