Westair International

Operated from Sep 1988 to Sep 1989

Main Base – Norwich

Founder/Director – Mr D Westbrook

During this cargo airline’s extremely short life, it would operate a multitude of flights with two leased Handley Page Heralds between a number of British airports to the Isle of Man, Brussels and Maastricht. It was the Brussels flights that would eventually see Westair operating freight services out of SEN, these being flown on contract to National Commuter Airways and BAC Express during the latter part of 1988. By the end of the year this work had ceased, although the occasional postal or cargo flight would see the aircraft returning to Southend. By the end of 1989, Westair was running out of work and even briefly went over to passenger charters in an attempt to keep the airline going. However, it was not to be and by September, operations had ceased with the airline finally being wound up in November.
