Independent Airways

Based at Southend from Mar 1992 to Nov 1992

Founder/Director – Unknown

Another extremely short lived, SEN based airline was Independent Airways which was set up to fly cargo and postal flights both from Southend and other airports around the U.K. A total of two H.S.748 aircraft were leased during this company’s lifespan although it is unknown when operations actually began. Unfortunately, information about this airline’s history is very hard to come by however, on April 13th G-MRRV was seen on a Southend – Gatwick – Culdrose run and again at Luton on July 2nd. While the purpose of these flights was unknown, the latter visit was likely postal in nature being as Luton was one of the Royal Mail’s main sorting offices at the time. This company should not be confused with British Independent Airways, another small, short-lived H.S.748 operator which ran passenger services from Lydd between 1990 & 1991.
